Addis Ababa, February 16, 2025 (FMC) - His Eminence Cardinal Abune Berhaneyesus, Archbishop of the Ethiopian Catholic Church, has conveyed a fatherly message today regarding the upcoming Great Lent.

 

In a message sent to Fana Digital, His Eminence Cardinal Abune Berhaneyesus said, “When we observe the Great Lent, it should be so that God’s mercy may abound for us. By fasting and praying more diligently, and by sharing what we have with those who lack, it ought to happen.”

 

He further stated, “It should also involve entering into repentance, reconciling with people and with God to renew and strengthen our relationships, fasting and praying, helping those in need, and performing works of love and mercy.”

 

Additionally, he expressed, “During the months of Great Lent, may we earnestly pray through fasting and prayer that God grants us the strength to honor and deepen the unity He has created, our sense of family, and our Ethiopian identity, living together in mutual respect and love.”

 

He also urged the faithful, saying, “Let refraining from speaking, hearing, or seeing evil be part of our fasting.”
