Companies involved in transporting fuel illegally have been fined 116 million birr: Ministry of Trade and Regional Cooperation

The Ministry of Trade and Regional Relations said that 325,000 liters of fuel, which was being transported illegally, was seized in the last 6 months. 

The Minister of Trade and Regional Relations Kasahun Gofe (Dr.) said that the companies involved in the incident were fined 116 million birr.

The minister mentioned that a 6-month evaluation of the performance of the ministry and respondent institutions is being conducted under the motto "Toward a streamlined business system with quality". During the mentioned period, they announced that the export sector earned about 3.28 billion dollars.

Note that effective work has been done to make business registration and licensing online; In this regard, they stated that legal and administrative action has been taken against 18 employees of the institution who committed illegal activities in order to correct corrupt practices.

He stated that in the last 6 months, more than 2 million 50 thousand business and registration license services have been provided; He said that it is very high compared to last year's annual performance of 2.4 million.

The Minister mentioned in an article shared on his social networking page that the price of cement has been reduced by half due to the improvement of cement marketing to ensure stable supply and marketing.

He added that with the salt marketing reform, the marketing which was monopolized by a few traders has been fairly opened to all.

He mentioned that the World Trade Organization (WTO) membership negotiations have been brought out of the suspended phase and entered into an active negotiation context. He said that adequate preparations are being made for the next 5th round of negotiations by organizing competent professionals.
