The 34th Africa Cup of Nations, hosted by Côte d'Ivoire, opened with a bang yesterday. Hosted by Equatorial Guinea in the opening game, hosts Cote D'Or highlighted their preparations with a two-goal win.
Three matches will be played today on the second day, and Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea, who are placed in group one with host Côte d'Ivoire, will meet at 11:00 am at Stade Olympique Alsane Ouattara.
Among the countries predicted to win the trophy in this category is Nigeria. Nigeria, with striker Victor Boniface injured at Bayern Leverkusen, will be led by African Player of the Year Victor Osmey. The Eagles have a diverse selection of forwards, including Ambalu Ahmed Musa, while they also have experienced players in the midfield, including Fulham's Alex Iwobi.
Egypt, another favorite to lift the trophy, will play Mozambique at the Stade Félix Houphouet-Boigny in Abidjan at 2pm. Egypt, who won the trophy seven times, will be led by Liverpool star Mohamed Salah. The Pharaohs, who have picked most of their squad from local clubs, will be led by Arsenal's Mohamed Elneny, who has the experience of their Maccabi location. It will be remembered that Egypt reached the finals of the 33rd Africa Cup of Nations and was defeated by Sadio Manewa's Senegal.
Ghana will play Cape Verde at five o'clock in the evening. The Black Stars, who have won the trophy four times, are among the teams expected to win this 34th trophy. Veteran forward Andre Ayew will lead the team with confidence, while West Ham midfielder Mohamed Quddus is among those expected to make the difference.
