Animal Breeding Institute announced that Ethiopia earned 400,000 US dollars from the sale of honey and beeswax in five months of 2017 fiscal year.

 

Dr. Sahlu Mulu, the deputy director general of the institute, told Bisrat Radio and Television that 70 percent of the plan has been achieved with the income obtained from the sale of marmalade and beeswax in the last five months.

 

Regarding honey production, he mentioned that instead of the previous five months, October, November and December are collected from different parts of Ethiopia and mentioned that this is the season that is said to be favorable for selling it in large quantities. They added that it was impossible to achieve.

 

It has been pointed out that most of the honey production is used for domestic consumption instead of being processed and offered to the foreign market, so it will work to increase the production and productivity of honey in the future to solve the problem. It is said that attention is being paid by the relevant body to increase the income from the sector by supplying the product to the foreign market by meeting the domestic demand.
