A delegation led by Field Marshal Birhanu Jula, Chief of General Staff of the Armed Forces, conducted a working visit to Somalia today.
The delegation’s visit was based on the directive set by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) and Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud during their prior discussions in Addis Ababa, which called for subsequent technical talks to be held in Mogadishu.
It was announced that the delegation, led by Field Marshal Birhanu Jula, Chief of General Staff of the Armed Forces, carried out this working visit to Somalia today.
The delegation included General Ambassador Redwan Hussein, Director of the National Intelligence and Security Service, along with other senior government officials.
Major General Odawa Yusuf Rage, Commander of the Somali National Armed Forces, and Ambassador Abdullahi Mohamed Ali, Director of Somalia’s National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA), extended a warm welcome to the delegation.
The commander and the director praised the strengthening relationship between Ethiopia and Somalia. They expressed their confidence that Ethiopia would continue to enhance its contributions to combating terrorism and promoting regional peace.
They also highlighted that Ethiopia’s foreign policy, which emphasizes peaceful diplomacy and prioritizes neighboring countries, holds significant value for peace in the Horn of Africa and the continent as a whole.
They acknowledged the exemplary role of the Ethiopian Defense Forces in the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).
They also extended recognition and respect to the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM), ATMIS, and other security forces that have made sacrifices for Somalia’s stability since 2007.
They emphasized that sustaining the achievements of AMISOM and ATMIS is crucial for the country’s lasting peace and development.
