It has been stated that organizations and individuals who illegally sell fuel will have their assets confiscated in addition to facing penalties.

The Central Ethiopia Region's Illegal Trade Control Force has announced that measures will be taken against entities engaging in illegal activities, which have exacerbated the fuel supply shortage faced by the country.

To address the issue, a technology-supported monitoring and control system will be expanded to regulate fuel distribution and supply. It has been noted that the problem is particularly widespread at fuel stations and among retailers, leading to unfair distribution and shortages as fuel is sold illegally in various neighborhoods.

In this regard, fuel stations in the region are required to conduct their transactions exclusively through a digital system. Fuel stations are expected to supply fuel in the appropriate manner as per their agreements. In districts without fuel stations, legal retailers will be enabled to operate, taking into account the population, the number of vehicles, and the presence of institutions.

Commander Taju Nagash, head of the Central Ethiopia Region Police Media Division, told Bsrat Radio and Television that assets seized from organizations, professionals, and security officials involved in illegal activities will be strictly monitored and confiscated, in addition to legal actions being taken against them.

It was reported by our station last week that fuel in the region was being sold at prices ranging from 250 to 400 birr per liter.
