There are many examples of the deep connection between Ethiopia and Islam.

The guardian of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), Umm Ayman, the first Mu'adhzin Bilal ibn Rabah, and the just King Negus "King Armah", who was honored and praised in the Holy Quran; and who is said to have been the first to offer the funeral prayer after his death, are the main examples of the connection between Ethiopia and Islam.

The people we will briefly mention today are from the land of Ethiopia, where our father, the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), had a close relationship with him and where he sent his followers (Sahaba) during times of hardship and suffering.

This father, who lived in the holy city of Medina, Saudi Arabia, served the Prophet's Mosque in Medina for more than 50 years.

He holds the only key to the burial place called the Hujra in the Prophet's Mosque in Medina, where the world gathers for prayer from one end to the other.

It is this respected father who opens the main gate of the tomb for Muslim leaders, including the Saudi king, who come to Medina for the Ziyarah prayer.

This wonderful Ethiopian, who left the country of Umm Ayman and Bilal, who are given a great place in Islam, is called Sheikh Nureddin Muhammad Ali. Since he is popular in the local community, he is not called by his full name.

"Sheikh Nuri" is the nickname given to him by historian Professor Adam Kamil.

Sheikh Nouri has been repeatedly invited to visit many Muslim countries, but due to his busy schedule, he has only accepted a few. Pakistan, Morocco, Indonesia, Oman, and Jordan are among the countries Sheikh Nouri has visited.

He is given a warm welcome at the airport when he arrives in his country. The media of the country also attracts a lot of attention. The Pakistani media has covered Sheikh Nouri's arrival in their country; it is a great indication that he has been given "breaking news" coverage.

Sheikh Nouri Muhammad Ahmed Ali was awarded the "Lifetime Achievement Award" by the Grand Imam of the Grand Mosque of Mecca, Sheikh Abdulrahman Al-Sudais, in 2015.

Now, the elderly Ethiopian who holds the key to the "Hujra" in the Haram of the Prophet's Mosque occasionally returns to his country.

"It is unfortunate that this respected father was not welcomed at least at the level of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (Majlis) in Ethiopia when he came to his country," historian Professor Adem Kamil once said in an interview.

The historian, who said that it is not too late, pointed out that there are circumstances in which it would be beneficial for the country to build an Islamic museum commemorating this great Ethiopian.
