Tigray people will be supported to overcome the changes that are coming in Ethiopia like their other brothers - Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD)

The Federal Government will continue to strengthen its support to the Tigray people to achieve peace and stability and overcome the changes that are coming in Ethiopia like their other brothers, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) said.

The handover ceremony of the presidency of the Tigray Regional State Administration was held today.

With this, Lieutenant General Tadesse Werede took over the presidency of the Tigray Regional State Administration and signed the Tigray Regional State Inclusive Transitional Administration Mission Statement. 

The ceremony was attended by senior government officials, including Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD), and representatives of the continental and international diplomatic community.

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) in his speech on the occasion stated that the federal government will continue to support the people of Tigray to find peace and embrace the changes that are coming like other brothers in Ethiopia.

In his speech, the Prime Minister thanked Ato Getachew Reda for his contribution to ensuring the urgent and necessary peace in the Tigray region over the past two years.

"I would like to express my deepest gratitude to the federal government and myself for their unwavering commitment to the peace of the people of Tigray since the Pretoria Agreement," he said.

Lieutenant General Tadesse Werede expressed his hope that he would follow in the footsteps of Ato Getachew Reda and establish peace in the region. 

He mentioned that there was a wide-ranging discussion on who would continue the key tasks that were not completed when Ato Getachew's term ended.

The Prime Minister said that we have also identified legal gaps that need to be filled in this discussion.

They also stated that after fixing the things that needed fixing, today we have officially transferred power in a new way and with a new culture.
