29 fish species in the Renaissance Dam
Addis Ababa, May 12, 2017 (FMC) A study has revealed that there are 29 fish species in the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam.
Among these, four species are the most abundant and commercially available, explained the head of the Benishangul Gumuz Regional Agriculture Bureau, Babaker Khalifa.
He stated that the fish species that are most abundant in terms of production are: Koroso, Ambazza, Duba and Nile Perch.
He confirmed to Fana Digital that the product is being supplied to the local, Assosa and Addis Ababa cities.
He noted that the demand for the product is increasing; he said that there is a very high demand for the Nile Perch fish species in foreign markets as well.
He noted that activities to meet the demand of both domestic and foreign markets will continue to be intensified.
Although the weight of fish varies depending on their species, the largest fish recorded so far in the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam is a Nile perch weighing 80 kilograms.
He also explained that there are different species of fish weighing from 4 to 15 kilograms.
