A group of senior officials of the federal government, which has been providing support and monitoring in the Oromia region, had a discussion with the leaders of the region today.
The Minister of Education, Professor Birhanu Nega, who coordinated the group of leaders in the Oromia region, expressed his observation that effective development works are being carried out in the region.
He explained that the leadership of the region as well as the people in each area are working with determination and that they have seen in the Jima zone where the leadership team moved.
He further emphasized that the leadership and the people should work hard to make the development initiative and effort sustainable.
Dr. Broke Kedrum, Director General of the Federal Technical and Vocational Training Institute, who participated in the support and monitoring in the region, said that he saw promising development works in the area he visited.
He stated that various agricultural development initiatives designed by the state government are being properly implemented to increase production and productivity.
In order to increase the agricultural production and productivity, he said that he saw that the farmers were organized in Kuta in every area and that this is a movement that gives great hope.
Zekarias Hirkalo, a member of the House of People's Representatives, said that he saw that the development works based on the local development capacity are being carried out in the areas he visited.
He stated that they have carried out support and monitoring activities in the Eastern Hararge Zone, and said that the production of market-oriented products in the area has been strengthened.
He also said that the work that has been started to create job opportunities for the youth by converting the natural resources of the area into development is also encouraged.
The federal government's senior leaders said that although what they saw was mostly promising, there were still infrastructural needs in every area.
In addition to this, he stated that he observed that better activity is being done in terms of productivity and pointed out that he also observed that there is a problem of market linkage.
On his part, Getu Gemechu, head of the Oromia Regional Agriculture Bureau, said that the visit of the leaders, apart from the success being registered in the region, is of great benefit in correcting deficiencies.
In particular, he said that extensive activities are being done in the field of agricultural development, and noted that constructive suggestions have been given by the leaders to further expand the development.
He announced that the regional agriculture office will strive for more change based on the problems that have arisen as a gap.
