A clean drinking water project to be built in Borena Zone at a cost of more than 754 million birr was announced today.

 

Minister of State for Water and Energy, Ambassador Asfau Dingamo, Deputy Director for East Africa at the African Development Bank Abdul Kamara and other stakeholders attended the program.

 

Ambassador Asfau Dingamo told Fana Broadcasting Corporation that the clean drinking water project will be built with support from the African Development Bank.

 

He mentioned that the program is part of the African Development Bank's plan to expand the construction of clean drinking water to deal with the drought in Borena and the surrounding area.

 

He pointed out that the first phase of the project was announced today, and that an agreement was reached for the construction of clean drinking water, which will be implemented at a cost of 60 million dollars in the next phase.

 

He also mentioned that in the second round of the project, seven existing drinking water wells will be reactivated immediately and five new deep wells will be dug.

 

In addition to this, three to four 1,000 cubic meter water tanks, pipelines and other works will be carried out for the installation of mechanical and pumps, he explained.

 

He also mentioned that the clean drinking water project will play a major role in dealing with the drought in Borena area.

 

He said that he will work in coordination with the concerned body to complete the project quickly and hand it over to the users.
