The government is set to begin deducting money each month from employees' #salaries for an emergency fund.
The Ethiopian Disaster Risk Management Proclamation has stipulated that it will work to respond to various disasters with self-reliant capacity.
To this end, salaried employees will be required to contribute a portion of their monthly wages, and businesses will also be mandated to pay a fixed amount when obtaining or renewing their trade licenses.
So far, salaried workers have had up to 35 percent of their income taxed, plus 7 percent for pension contributions, totaling as much as 42 percent deducted monthly.
However, the percentage to be deducted for the proposed emergency fund has not yet been specified.
It has been stated that institutions will also be required to contribute, and the detailed percentage they will pay is expected to be determined by a regulation from the Council of Ministers.
