In 1942, the president remembered that international architects were invited to participate in the design competition. The lucky winner was a Swiss citizen based in Ethiopia and the competition has made Addis Ababa a center of gravity for engineers and architects. 

As a result, buildings such as the National Theatre, Africa Hall, Addis Ababa Stadium, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Hilton Addis Ababa were built after the palace.
