America's Next Goal After the Moon Is Mars - President Donald Trump

US President Donald Trump said during a White House reception for the Artemis 2 astronauts that Mars is the next goal after the Moon.

 

All four members of the Artemis 2 mission attended the White House ceremony, where the president expressed his deep appreciation for the astronauts. 

 

In a message to the astronauts, President Trump said; "You are true American heroes," and that their journey has captured the attention of not only the country but the entire world and has shown incredible heroism.

 

President Trump expressed his commitment to reaffirming America's leadership in space exploration and reaffirmed his plan to land astronauts on the Moon in the future. 

 

"This time, we are not planting our flag to stay for a while and then return, but to have a permanent base on the moon and then move on to Mars," he said, explaining his country's long-term space ambitions.

 

The Artemis 2 astronauts set a new record by traveling 10 days away from Earth, the furthest any human has traveled to date; the data collected during the trip will be used as input for the Artemis 3 mission, which will take humans to the south pole of the moon.
