Hackers defrauded African billionaire Tutor (X) of $1.48 million 

 

#Ethiopia | Hackers used artificial intelligence (AI) to create a deepfake video on the hacked account of billionaire X, Business Insider Africa has reported.

 

The deepfake video shows the hacked billionaire supporting a token called the Tanzanian dollar.

 

Following this, many investors believed the hacker and were scammed.

 

However, the hacked investor, X, has since denied any involvement in the matter, saying that the account was hacked and that the video was created using artificial intelligence (AI).

 

According to Forbes, the billionaire confirmed that he had sent a message to his more than 2 million followers on WhatsApp, saying, “My account has been hacked.”

 

He also reportedly warned his followers to be careful.

 

ZachXBT, which investigates crypto industry theft, said that the hackers were likely the same ones who stole $1.3 million from former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro’s X account two weeks ago. 

 

A study in the field has shown that deepfake scams are expected to cause more than $12 billion in fraud losses by 2023 alone.
