The Ethio-Djibouti Standard Gauge Railway is reported to be on track to provide service for the construction of Djibouti's Free Economic Zone (Free-zone).

The journey to connect the railway line with industrial parks, free trade zones, agro-processing zones, and logistics centers on its own capacity has been officially announced.

The Minister of Transport and Logistics, Alemu Sime, stated this.

We have heard that in connection with Ethiopia's import and export trade, particularly in the logistics sector, the transport corridor still involves high costs and delays, and it has been reported that efforts have begun to address this.

Given that over 90% of the country's import and export trade passes through the eastern part of Ethiopia, it has been announced that industrial parks located along this corridor are planned to better facilitate the flow of import and export goods through improved logistics and railway lines.

Accordingly, the Ethio-Djibouti Standard Gauge Railway has stated that work has begun to link these industries with the Ethio-Djibouti railway line to enhance logistics efficiency.

Following this, it has been announced that today, the Ethio-Djibouti Standard Gauge Railway has commenced the construction of a 3 km railway line connecting the AMG Industrial Park with the Indode railway station.

This will enable the rapid transportation of AMG products, including coffee and metals, from the factory gate to the port.

It is known that this railway infrastructure development, which is about to be inaugurated, is being entirely constructed for the first time using the capacity of Ethiopian railway engineers and experts.

We have heard that the project will help provide better and faster logistics services by connecting the Indode freight station with the industrial park.

Taye Kulule, CEO of the Ethio-Djibouti Standard Gauge Railway, stated that building Ethiopia's railway infrastructure will significantly improve the country's overall economy, and then the Ethio-Djibouti Standard Gauge Railway will transition from a single company to a conglomerate or holding company of various companies.

The railway has announced that it has embarked on three major projects: extending the high-capacity railway line, expanding the country's import and export goods beyond Djibouti to reach the rest of the world and facilitating global logistics, and focusing on railway operation, maintenance, and engineering.

The Minister of Transport and Logistics, Alemu Sime, stated that the railway connection program that began today has the vision to link not only domestic but also neighboring countries by rail.

The minister added that railway infrastructure development needs to be interconnected in all directions and strongly support achieving an African continental free trade area.

It is said that this kind of railway line will eliminate the cumbersome logistics process along the way by transporting raw materials from the port to the factory and delivering various products, including coffee and goods, to the port.

We have also heard that this project has set a path in Ethiopia's railway infrastructure history by ensuring that all tasks are carried out by Ethiopian experts.
