Livestock insurance benefits pastoralists

It has been reported that livestock insurance or insurance sales are benefiting pastoralists and semi-pastoralists. 

 

The Ministry of Agriculture’s Pastoral Risk Reduction and Inclusive Economic Value Enhancement Project is conducting a training of trainers on livestock insurance service provision in Adama. 

 

It was announced at the forum that livestock insurance or insurance sales will start from September 1st.

 

It was also noted that this livestock insurance is being implemented in 5 regions where pastoralists and semi-pastoralists are involved. 

 

It is said that the insurance sales will benefit these areas that are affected by climate change. 

 

This pastoralist disaster risk reduction and inclusive economic value enhancement project will be implemented in 187 woredas where pastoralists are located in Ethiopia. 

 

The project is being implemented with the support of 115 million dollars from the World Bank, of which 45 million dollars has been allocated for animal insurance. 

 

State Minister of Agriculture Dr. Fikru Regasa said that 140 thousand pastoralists and semi-pastoralists have received animal insurance. 

 

The State Minister mentioned that 112 million birr has been paid as an advance payment for this.
