University of Gondar: Covenant Family Networking and Connections 

#Ethiopia | Celebrating its 70th anniversary and the centenary of its hospital, the prestigious University of Gondar is holding a networking event on the Gondar Family Project today, February 9, 2017, under the theme "Covenant Family Networking for the Development of Ethiopia".

This Covenant Family Project was launched in 2012 and is a program that aims to connect new university students with the local community.

On that day, Asrat Atsedwein (Dr.) President of the University of Gondar stated that this multifaceted Covenant Family Project was designed by taking similar experiences from European and American higher education institutions abroad, and from within the country, by drawing on the experience of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church's model student house and the tradition of Islamic students.

In this 6th round, the program has so far connected more than 3,000 students and their parents across Ethiopia to the Gondar community.

The guest of honor on the day, Dr. Keredin Tezera, Minister of State for Peace, said that this project has a deep meaning for strong national building, shows the family aspect of our national unity, and reflects the existing values ​​in a modern institution.

He also pledged that the Gondar Covenant Family Project, which promotes multiculturalism and multilingualism, will be of great benefit to the students who are being handed over to the Gondar community with a sense of childhood, and that the Ministry of Peace will support it in all fields, as it is of great benefit to sustainable social and national peace building.

Speaking at the forum, the Deputy Mayor of Gondar City, Ato Chalew Dagenew, recalled that Gondar has always had a great tradition of hospitality, and that the Covenant Family Project implemented between the university and the city residents has continued Gondar's great hospitality and demonstrated that the university is a bearer of the value of peace. He thanked the city residents for their exemplary actions.

The guest of honor of the day and the president of the university called on other higher education institutions in our country to implement this project, which has social, national and academic benefits, by making Gondar University an example.

The 70th anniversary of the University of Gondar and the centennial anniversary of the hospital will continue with various programs until June.
