The Mother Party stated that it has taken the tax imposed on residents by the Addis Ababa City Administration, referred to as the "roof and wall tax," to court to be annulled.

The party made this statement today in a press release issued at its headquarters located in the Sengatera area, regarding the court's decision.

The party's executive director, Dr. Seyfeselassie Ayalew, explained that the Addis Ababa City Finance Bureau had imposed the roof and wall tax, and based on a lawsuit they filed, the city administration's tax on the people was ruled illegal and subsequently annulled.

The party mentioned that the Addis Ababa City Administration's Property Tax Harmonization Temporary Project Office had prepared and submitted a property tax directive, which was circulated to all city administration structures through the Addis Ababa Finance Bureau on Miyazia 3, 2015 (Ethiopian calendar). The party argued that this directive was implemented without following the law and without the authority of the city administration. They stated that they had been engaged in a legal battle for about two years to have this decision annulled.

The decision was issued by the Lideta Division of the Federal High Court, which handles federal administrative justice cases.

The city administration had presented three preliminary objections to the lawsuit filed by the Mother Party, but the court rejected all three, as reported by the party.

The Addis Ababa City Finance Bureau has reportedly requested an appeal.

The party's executive director assured that they will continue to fight peacefully to ensure the decision is respected.

The reason for the lawsuit, as explained by Dr. Seyfeselassie Ayalew, is that the property tax directive issued by the Property Tax Harmonization Temporary Project Office and circulated through the Addis Ababa Finance Bureau on Miyazia 3, 2015, to all city administration structures, did not comply with the law. The city administration's implementation of the property tax directive was also not in accordance with the law, leading to its annulment.

The party further stated that the city administration issued the roof and wall tax directive without the proper authority.
