After evaluating the earthquake incidents and the responses given in detail, the direction of the next steps to be taken was set

The Disaster Risk Management Council held an emergency meeting today regarding the earthquake that occurred in three districts in the Rift Valley in Oromia and Afar regions.

Members of the scientific community and leaders of the two regions were also invited to the emergency meeting.

Since September 2017, Deputy Prime Minister Temesenge Tiruneh posted on his social networking page that it was necessary to pay special attention to the risks of earthquakes and tremors that have occurred in areas that are part of the East African Rift Valley.  

Believing that due to the frequency and scope of the incident, the impact on the citizens living in the area, it is necessary to take appropriate precautions, and the meeting reviewed the effectiveness of the joint task force's pre-disaster prevention activities. 

It was also pointed out that the federal and state structures are responding to the threat of an integrated disaster and the scientific community is closely monitoring the issue and providing information.

So far, it has been stated in the forum that partners and relevant sectors have been actively supporting the prevention work through the Risk Management Commission. 

The emergency meeting reviewed the earthquake incidents and the responses in detail and set directions for the next steps and actions to be taken.

Deputy Prime Minister Temesenge Tiruneh thanked all the parties involved in the effective prevention work that has been done so far.
