A permanent exhibition of archeology and virtual reality commemorating the churches of Lalibela has been opened in the city of Lalibela under the guiding principle of "Lalibela built by faith".

 

Minister of Tourism Seleshi Girma attended the program. He stated that it is being done to increase the competitive destination and social benefit by carrying out activities that add value to the historical heritage of the tourist destination.

 

He recalled that the Lalibela Virtual Reality Fair was opened in Ontoto Park and was visited by hundreds of thousands of people and mentioned that a similar fair was opened in Lalibela.

 

He stated that special attention has been given to the development and protection of world heritage sites registered by UNESCO.

 

The Minister of State said that the works of developing, protecting and promoting the attractions of Ethiopia are being carried out on a large scale, and he also mentioned the restoration of Gondar and Jimma Abajfar parliaments as examples of projects for the country.

 

He also said that hotel and tourism development works are being carried out to build the capacity of the sector and improve the quality of tourist services.

 

He also mentioned that the 'Lalibela Sustainable Project' is being implemented with the support of the French government, which will not only show the typical tourism resources in Lalibela, but also create a tour package that will extend the stay of visitors and make it a competitive tourist destination by adding value and increasing local benefits.

 

He also asked for the next phase of the sustainable development project, which has only one year left to complete the deadline.

 

Deputy Director of the Ethiopian Heritage Authority, Hayab Hailu; He said that heritage has an irreplaceable role as a source of information and a source of income to remember history, understand nature and the environment.

 

The official mentioned that works are being done by the stakeholders to transfer the relics to the next generation, to protect them from damage, to study them and to increase their economic and social development benefits.

 

He said that the implementation of the 'Sustainable Development of Lalibela' project, which is carried out in 22 focus areas with the support of the French Development Agency, is also at a good stage.

 

He stated that Lalibela's permanent fair will create a great opportunity to promote Ethiopia and extend the stay of visitors, and that it will be opened by others in the future.

 

According to the deputy director, the preservation and maintenance of heritage is the responsibility of the citizens, and the restoration and maintenance of Lalibela churches and the temporary shelter of the heritage will be done carefully.
