Addis Ababa Trade Bureau announces legal action against 72 bakeries found selling below 70 grams

 

#Ethiopia | The Addis Ababa Trade Bureau has announced that it has taken action against 72 bakeries found selling below the 70 grams limit set by the Trade Bureau, and said that the monitoring will continue.

 

Of the 72 bakeries that were taken action against, 65 bakeries have been restored to legality, the head of the Addis Ababa Trade Bureau’s Legal Compliance Team, Dereje Bekele, told our station.

 

The head of the Legal Compliance Team, who reminded us that bread is not a basic commodity, said that the Trade Bureau is only monitoring bakeries that are selling at the posted price and grams.

 

Mr. Dereje Bekele informed that the Trade Bureau has a system in place to take action, from a written notice to the cancellation of business licenses, against bakeries that sell products above the posted price and below the recommended gram size during monitoring and control.

 

It was stated that when bakeries sell above the posted price list and are found to be under the recommended gram size, the public can provide tips on the toll-free number 85 88.
