"When you see the produce produced in the district, it says that the farmers are working with frustration": Deputy Prime Minister Temeseng Tiruneh

Deputy Prime Minister Temesenge Tiruneh and Prime Minister Arega Kebede visited Lema's wheat field in Moret and Jiru district of North Shewa Zone.

Ministers and senior government officials of the Amhara region attended the visit. 

Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Tiruneh recalled that last year farmers were unable to get inputs due to the security problem. This year, however, they mentioned that there has been a lot of fertilizer distribution in the region. 

They said that there is relative peace in most parts of the region, so there is a favorable situation to move and work. 

He mentioned that the work done by the National Defense Army, the regional government, the regional security agencies and the Ministry of Agriculture produced an amazing product. They expressed that they were happy with what they saw.

The deputy prime minister said that the problems caused by the production of the district seem to have made the farmers depressed.

Note that it is expected that there will be an increase in wheat production as a country. They said that the production they saw during their visit is an indication that there will be an increase in production.  

The farmers of the region have realized that they are working to produce profit while preventing the security problem. As the region is getting rid of the security problem, they expressed their belief that they will be more profitable in the future, Amico reported.

On his part, the Head of Government, Ageda Bede, stated that effective crop development work has been done in the region. He said that more than 5.2 million hectares of land has been covered with crops.

He said that including 80 million quintals of wheat, a total of 169 million quintals of production is expected. 

Minister of Agriculture Girma Amente (Dr.), who was present at the visit, said that the wheat crop seen in Moret and Jiru is an indication of Ethiopia's success in the agricultural sector.

The minister mentioned that wheat production in Moret and Jiru area is higher than the average per hectare in Ethiopia and the world. He said that the area is a demonstration that food sovereignty can be ensured.

The local farmers who stated that Kuta's farming is making them successful, mentioned that they could have produced more if there had been no breach of peace in the region. He pointed out that problems should be resolved peacefully and turned to development.
