The Libyan government and rival parties have signed a national peace and reconciliation agreement.

 

The agreement was brokered by the African Union and its mediation committee.

 

In a message delivered on the occasion, the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, said that the Union is working hard to free Africa from the shackles of peace.

 

He explained that solving internal problems is one of the main goals of the African Union, in particular, in line with the principle of African solutions to African problems.

 

He announced that the African Union has established a reconciliation committee to restore peace to Libya and ensure the security of its citizens.

 

He said that the agreement document presented by the committee was fair and responsive to both parties.

 

He said that both the Libyan government and the rival parties must fulfill their responsibilities for the implementation of the agreement.

 

He also said that international institutions and stakeholders working on peace and security should support him, EZEA reported.

 

The agreement was attended by leaders and stakeholders from various African countries.
