#Ethiopia | The Addis Ababa Food and Drug Authority has announced that it will make it mandatory to make edible oil and wheat flour fortified.

 

According to the Deputy Director of the Regulatory Sector, Ato Enga Ereketa; It was agreed two years ago that establishments producing edible oil and wheat flour must be fortified. 

 

The two-year preparation and implementation period given to producers has now been completed and it has become mandatory. 

 

He noted that producers have accepted the obligation and have started to produce and package fortified products; and that institutions with limited capacity are being encouraged to implement the requirements by linking them with organizations that have started to implement them.

 

According to the Deputy Director; The standard includes several mandatory issues. It has also been made mandatory to present it with the national fortified food symbol.

 

Therefore, it has been decided that it is mandatory for institutions producing edible oil and wheat flour in Addis Ababa city to enrich the oil with vitamins A and D and the wheat flour with vitamin B complex and zinc.
