What will happen to the existing passport?

The Immigration and Citizenship Service has officially launched a new e-passport today.

It has been stated that the new e-passport includes an individual’s biometric data, such as fingerprints, facial recognition, and an electronic chip.

This raises the question: “So, what will happen to the existing passport currently in use?”

According to the Immigration and Citizenship Service, the existing passport will remain in use until its validity expires.

It is known that those who already have a passport can continue using it until its expiration date.

However, for those who wish to switch to the new passport, it has been explained that after submitting their fingerprints, the passport will be issued to them within ten days.

In the process, the service has announced that the existing passport will eventually be replaced by the new e-passport.

The new passport was introduced with the intention of transitioning Ethiopia, which had been using a manual passport for 125 years, to a technology-based system.
