Addis Ababa City Islamic Affairs High Council has handed over the houses it built at a cost of more than 3 million 990 thousand birr to the residents
#Ethiopia | More than 19 thousand families lost their homes due to the flood disaster that occurred in two districts of Silte Zone at the end of 2016. Due to the repeated disasters in the area, the zone and regional governments have been working to seek the cooperation of various bodies in order to find a lasting solution.
The zone government had come to the Addis Ababa Majlis at the beginning of the year with this request, and the High Council promised on behalf of the city's Muslim community that it would respond to this request.
In accordance with this promise, the Addis Ababa Majlis today handed over the fourteen houses it built in the presence of the leaders and executive members of the High Council; zone and district administrators, and local residents.
At the handover ceremony, the Silti Zone Chief Administrator, Ato Zeine Bilka Mohammed, said that the bodies from the woreda to the federal government have made significant contributions to help the victims of the disasters that occurred in Silti and East Silti districts.
Among these partners is the Addis Ababa City Islamic Affairs High Council, and the Chief Administrator, Ato Zeine, thanked them for their significant financial support and monitoring of their work.
He explained that work is still underway to permanently resolve the disaster that occurred in the zone, and said that the families who were scattered due to the work of the council have been able to return to their homes.
The President of the council, Honorable Dr. Sheikh Sultan Aman Eba, who was present at the handover ceremony with other leaders, said that as the Addis Ababa City Islamic Affairs High Council, in addition to our condolences upon hearing of the disaster, we have moved to do what we can for our people.
To address this problem, we have provided more than 3 million 990 thousand birr from our community and budget, and we will continue to work diligently for the development of our Muslim community and the Muslim community of our city, he said.
The Addis Ababa Majlis has been carrying out similar works and has been fulfilling its Islamic and social responsibilities in Addis Ababa; Borena, West Guji, Debre Birhan, Tigray and other places, said the Honorable Dr. Sheikh Sultan Aman Eba at the handover ceremony.
The people of Silte are hard workers and helpers. The President said that it is necessary to cooperate to overcome the current problem and to be in a better situation than before. Since Silte issues cannot be left to the government and local administration alone, we should all work together.
After touring the works carried out with the rest of the Majlis and the zone leaders, the President commended the zone for fulfilling its mandate. The leaders also visited the development works being carried out in the zone.
The Addis Ababa Islamic Affairs High Council uses the community's capacity to carry out such support works effectively, and it was learned that similar works will continue in the future.
