The Ethiopian Medical Association has announced that it has not participated in the registration and licensing of health professionals being prepared by the Ministry of Health.

The president of the association, Dr. Gemchis Mamo, announced the reason why the association does not accept the guidelines at a meeting called by the ministry today, August 1, 2011.

A few days ago, the Ministry of Health sent a letter to the association to comment on the guidelines, and it is recalled that it was sent to the members to comment on it.

In today's meeting organized by the ministry, the association was present according to the call received by the president and one person of the association to participate, but he was forced to leave the meeting.

The president of the association explained the reasons why he was forced to cancel the meeting as follows.

1. He has repeatedly informed the officials and officials of the Ministry of Health, believing that the professional license should be done by the professional association and not by the Ministry of Health. 2. As a solution to this, there should be an independent council that should take the experience of neighboring countries and civilized countries to assess the professional performance of medical schools and medical graduates. If there are any dentists, they have submitted a thoroughly researched document called Ethiopian Medical & Dental Doctors Council to the ministry.

4. If the Ministry of Health should solve the problem of our doctors, it should be discussed with the union representing doctors, not by people in other professions. If we have to talk at this professional license meeting, we will meet as doctors and talk about the professional license of doctors, not with our other professional partners. We have a strong position that this should work for everyone. We have explained this to them. This is the position that the Ethiopian Medical Association has been promoting.
