The Minister of Health has stated that all fees charged by government health institutions will be fully digitized.
It has also been reported that soon all government health institutions will be required to implement a digital payment system for their services.
This initiative has reportedly begun in Addis Ababa and in regional cities.
The Digital Health Director at the Ministry emphasized this in an interview with Sheger Radio.
Currently, the lead implementer noted that many payment systems are transitioning to digital, and efforts are underway to make this system user-friendly for the health sector.
When people visit health institutions, they will use their mobile phones to make payments, which will also enhance transparency and accountability.
In particular, individuals in rural areas who may not have access to modern telecommunication may face challenges in making digital payments, and they are looking for various alternatives.
The implementation of the system in rural areas is being tested in specific districts, according to Ato Gemetchis.
