The Foreign Affairs Institute, New Horizon for Africa, the Ethiopian Diaspora Association, and African Eagle Multimedia are jointly organizing a program titled *"The Sovereignty of Blackness"* to commemorate Black History Month.
Starting from February 1 (Yekatit 1 in the Ethiopian calendar), the program will honor the history of Black people over 28 consecutive days. During this month, the stories of 28 influential Black women who have made significant contributions to Black communities and beyond will be highlighted.
Among the women to be celebrated are Michelle Obama, Oprah Winfrey, and Ethiopia’s own Habtemariam, who have showcased Black excellence to the world. Additionally, women who have excelled in fields such as medicine, education, music, and various professions will also be recognized.
Over 25 Black Americans, including professors, scientists, doctors, and other influential individuals, will travel to Ethiopia to participate in the program.
Beyond discussions on Pan-Africanism, Black influence, and African unity with global Black leaders, participants will also visit historical sites in Ethiopia that symbolize the struggle for Black freedom.
The choice of Ethiopia as the host for this celebration is due to its historical role in the fight for Black liberation.
Organizers have stated that this program will be held annually and will contribute significantly to diplomacy and the nation’s image-building efforts.
It has been over 50 years since Black Americans began celebrating February as Black History Month, marking the history and achievements of Black people.
