The Ministry of Foreign Affairs warned diplomats based in Addis Ababa not to leave the city without informing the government.

#Ethiopia The reporter read in today's edition that diplomats based in Addis Ababa were told in a letter not to leave the city without informing the government.

According to the letter sent by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the diplomatic community a week ago, the international community organizations are urged to ask for prior permission for any activities they do within the borders of the country.

According to the report, international and regional institutions in Addis Ababa, diplomatic community organizations and non-governmental international institutions should fill out a prior notification form at the Ministry's office regarding their trips outside of Addis Ababa.

However, the letter to the diplomatic community did not make clear whether the warning was for business or personal travel. According to the information obtained from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, although the same letter was written, it was stated that some diplomats were still operating without the recognition of the Federal Government.

A year ago, when the Ministry of Foreign Affairs submitted its report to the House of People's Representatives, the parliament was asked to issue a reminder because the states were participating in the foreign relations work assigned to the federal government only by the country's constitution.

An official of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, who did not wish to be named, told the reporter that in the past, diplomats were told to notify when they intend to leave the city, but the letter was written again because certain parties were seen to be moving without anyone's approval.

He said that following the conclusion of the North Ethiopian war with the Pretoria agreement, representatives of the diplomatic community and international organizations were traveling to Mekele, the capital of Tigray region, and other cities, without the recognition of the federal government. Similarly, they traveled to Oromia and Amhara regions without the approval of the federal government and communicated with the regional authorities.

He also stated that it is because the government has an obligation to protect diplomatic community organizations and international organizations when they leave the city for work.
