It is known that 41 million saplings have been planted in Addis Ababa city administration in the first phase of the Green Footprint program for beauty and parks, food and mixed forests.

The mayor of Addis Ababa city, Adanech Abebe, today launched the fifth round of the Green Footprint program where 17 million saplings will be planted.

In the first phase of the green footprint program, more than 25 billion saplings were planted nationwide and 41 million saplings were planted in the capital, the mayor said, adding that the development will continue in an intensive manner.

In addition to increasing Ethiopia's forest cover, he also mentioned that the mixed forest saplings are being planted and used to enhance the beauty of the capital and ensure the food security of the citizens.

Mayor Adan said that drought and floods caused by climate change are testing the world. The Green Footprint Program has a role to play in responding to this, he said.

He called on every citizen to actively participate in the second phase of the Green Footprint program.

On the program, the Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Girma Amente, stated that Ethiopia's Green Footprint program takes into account economic viability, social acceptability and environmentalism.

Remember that the forest cover in Ethiopia, which was up to 40 percent, has been reduced to 3 percent; He said that planting saplings is a matter that deserves attention and every citizen should participate.

It is expected that 6.5 billion saplings will be planted nationwide in the second phase of the green footprint program.

The Minister of Agriculture Dr. Girma Amente, Deputy Mayor Ato Jantarar Abai and other officials of the federal and city administration participated in the launch program.

It is remembered that Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed launched the second phase of the Green Footprint Program in Afar region.

It is expected that 6.5 billion saplings will be planted nationwide in the second phase of the 2015 Green Footprint Program.
