Ethio Telecom launched fifth-generation (5G) internet service in Bale Robe and Assela cities today.
Additionally, it has introduced 4G LTE Advanced service in 114 regional cities.
The launch ceremony for this program took place in Bale Robe city today.
Ethio Telecom, which began 5G wireless technology in Addis Ababa in 2022, is expanding the service to cities across the country and has so far launched it in 16 major cities, including Bale Robe and Assela.
Addis Ababa, Adama, Jigjiga, Dire Dawa, Harar, Bahir Dar, Hawassa, Wolayita Sodo, Hossana, Arba Minch, Bishoftu, Jimma, Dessie, and Kombolcha are among the cities that have already received the service.
The 5G service launched today in Bale Robe in the South Southeast Region and Assela in the Southeast Region demonstrates the company’s commitment to enabling Ethiopia to benefit from future technology and to increasing the accessibility of digital and financial services.
In Bale Robe, the following locations can now access 5G internet:

Waqo Gutu Square,

Robe Ethio Telecom Office (existing),

Bale Zone Education Office,

Robe Technical and Vocational Training College, and

Meda Welabu University main campus.
In Assela city, the following areas have started accessing 5G:

Assela Zone Administration Office,

Assela Ethio Telecom Office,

Assela Stadium,

Assela Rift Valley University, and

Assela Education Office area.
The 5G technology is said to offer speeds up to 10 Gbps, a latency as low as 1 millisecond, and the capacity to support up to 1 million telecom devices per square kilometer.
This technology is expected to meet the rapidly growing data and internet demands of individuals, organizations, and industries.
It is also stated that 5G will modernize businesses, improve efficiency, and foster innovation.
