Transport and Logistics Minister Dr. Alemu Sme said that since driving is a big profession that requires ethics, training institutions should pay due attention to it.

The 8th Oromia non-motorized transport service and traffic safety week has started at the regional level in Asela city.

As the Minister of Transport and Logistics Dr. Alemu Sme said in the program, traffic accidents are a problem that we cannot control.

He explained that more than 80 percent of accidents are caused by driver incompetence and vehicle technical problems; This is an indication that our focus should be strengthened on this, they said.

He said that traffic accidents are still at a serious level due to the lack of attention of the leadership and the sector bodies at all levels.

The minister pointed out that putting people on top of each other, charging more than the fare and exaggerating the passengers are widespread problems in the sector. They pointed out that there are wide gaps in the areas of Nahirya.

He stated that the government is in the process of implementing digital services to solve the problems, starting with the implementation of modern technologies on transport vehicles and vehicles.

In addition, Dr. Alemu said that efforts are being made to establish new procedures and implement strong laws to ensure the rule of law in the sector.

Chief Executive Officer of Ethiopian Road Safety and Insurance Service, Ato Jamal Abbaso said that the source of traffic accidents starts from driver training institutions.

He cited as an example that they have taken out drivers who are not qualified in their profession, do not feel responsible and who are perceived as lacking in morals, without sufficient skills and knowledge.

Mr. Jamal said that training institutions cannot continue like this. He stated that the government is preparing a quality measurement standard so that the institutions can produce human resources equipped with appropriate knowledge and skills.

EZA reports that community members from RC zone and Asela city, Abba Gedas, Hade Sinke and leadership bodies at all levels participated in the program.
