The Digital Ethiopia 2030 Strategy, which aims to ensure inclusive prosperity by not only providing access to the internet but also making technology a way of life, serves as a guide for Ethiopia’s economic transformation.

According to the strategy document; National Identity Card (FIDA), digital payment system, infrastructure development and cybersecurity are considered to be the main pillars. 

These pillars will benefit citizens in the digital world; in particular, FIDA ID has a key role in making banking, health and education services accessible to all citizens, the document indicates.

Another focus of the strategy is to bring about a significant change in the agricultural sector; the main goal is to increase productivity by enabling farmers to easily access weather information, product markets and credit provision through their mobile phones. 

Furthermore, according to the strategy document; ample job opportunities will be created for young people in any part of Ethiopia to compete in the global technology market and to develop their creative businesses.

The strategy also highlighted the potential for increasing foreign exchange earnings by promoting Ethiopia’s tourist attractions to the world through digital options.

In general, many scholars agree that Digital Ethiopia 2030 serves as a historical roadmap that will ensure Ethiopia’s competitiveness in the global digital economy and provide transparent government services to citizens.
