The Supreme Court upheld the Federal Court's decision to ban TikTok in America
#Ethiopia The Supreme Court today unanimously upheld the decision of a federal court to ban TikTok in the United States if it is not sold to another entity by the end of next Sunday.
In today's decision, the Supreme Court declared that TikTok's relationship with China outweighs the threat to national security that the platform's ban would limit the freedom of speech and expression of 170 million Americans. According to the Associated Press report, it is not inevitable that Tiktok will be sold to another party.
According to the decision, new users cannot install or update the app. The Ministry of Justice noted in the document submitted to the court that even if the application remains on their phone, it cannot be used.
President-elect Donald Trump had asked the Supreme Court to delay the ban until after he took office on Monday. Although Trump announced that he would save TikTok from being banned, he did not specify how.
The Supreme Court's decision came after Trump announced that he would resolve the issue through negotiations, and the Joe Biden administration indicated that it would not implement the law in his last day in office.
Trump, who has 14.7 million followers on TikTok and recognizes the importance of the platform, has stood in opposition to senior Republican senators who reject the announcement that TikTok's owners have yet to find a buyer.
