Ethiopia and Somalia agreed to strengthen their cooperation on peace and stability in the region. 

The two countries also announced that they will work with determination to improve their bilateral cooperation. 

The governments of Ethiopia and Somalia have issued a joint statement of position. 

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (Dr.) gave a warm welcome to the President of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud, who arrived in Addis Ababa in the evening to pay a working visit to Ethiopia. 

The leaders of the two countries discussed various bilateral and regional issues of mutual interest in Addis Ababa today. 

It was also stated that the leaders had a fruitful discussion to strengthen the fraternal relations between the peoples of the countries.

In the discussion, the two countries reached an agreement to restore and improve their bilateral relations by returning full diplomatic representation in each country.

It was pointed out in the statement that the leaders of the countries emphasized that their diplomatic missions should work closely on the common interests of the countries in multilateral and regional forums.  

The leaders emphasized the importance of a relationship based on trust and respect between the two countries for the stability of the region. 

They reached an agreement to improve their cooperation on regional issues, create common understanding and work together to realize common goals. 

In addition, in the discussion, it was pointed out that Ethiopia and Somalia need to carry out continuous work to strengthen their security and safety cooperation. 

The ever-increasing and worrisome threat of armed groups in the region was raised in the discussion. 

The leaders of the countries agreed to strengthen their cooperation for regional peace and stability by giving guidance to their security institutions.

The leaders also stated that the two countries should work to further strengthen their cooperation in economy, investment and trade. 

It was also mentioned in the statement that Ethiopia and Somalia have reached an agreement to create strong economic cooperation to expand the infrastructure lines that facilitate their trade ties and to ensure their mutual prosperity.

The leaders stated that they will work with determination for the implementation of the Ankara agreement and mentioned that the agreement is born from the spirit of friendship and partnership between the countries.

The information obtained from the Prime Minister's Office shows that the joint statement indicated that they have reached an agreement to speed up the technical negotiations set out in the agreement.
