It has been reported that the Ethio-Djibouti Railway, beyond transportation, has obtained permission to handle the import and export of goods from Djibouti or the country of origin into Ethiopia. This includes managing massive global economic transactions, vessel clearance, and completing customs documentation.
As a result, it is said that this will significantly reduce the penalties and warehouse rental fees that importers and exporters pay in foreign currency, as well as eliminate the chaos often experienced in the middle of import-export trade.
The Ethio-Djibouti Railway has stated that it has begun implementing a system designed with the hope of streamlining Ethiopia’s import-export trade and eliminating cumbersome procedures, now moving forward on that path.
Observers have noted that the Ethio-Djibouti Railway, beyond transportation, has started providing freight and multimodal services as a cornerstone of Ethiopia’s massive economic import-export trade.
It is said that the Ethiopian Maritime Authority has granted permission for this service to be provided.
The Ethio-Djibouti Railway has stated, “I have equipped myself to handle the entire process of importing goods into the country and exporting them abroad, starting from the country where the goods originate, including vessel operations, completing paperwork and customs processes in Djibouti, and bringing them into Ethiopia.”
Consequently, this is expected to alleviate the headaches in the logistics sector related to import-export trade.
