Hospital working to ensure community receives appropriate services
Addis Ababa, February 25, 2017 (FMC) It has been announced that the Queen Eleni Mohammed Memorial Comprehensive Specialized Hospital of Watchmo University is working to improve its operations so that patients do not suffer due to shortage of medicines and the community receives appropriate treatment.
Complaints have been submitted to Fana Digital stating that the hospital has gaps in service delivery, including the provision of medicines.
Dr. Desalegn Shigute, Head of the Hadiya Zone Health Department, who we spoke to based on the complaint, told Fana Digital that previous problems related to medicines at the hospital have been resolved and that patients are receiving medicines properly from the hospital’s pharmacy.
He pointed out that the hospital has paid off its 20 million birr debt and has invested 11 million birr in medicine to make it accessible to the community.
He also stated that the new leadership of Watchmo University is paying special attention to the hospital.
He mentioned that the hospital is working closely with Watchmo University and the Zonal Health Department and is working diligently to import various medical equipment, including kidney dialysis machines, to further improve its services.
He said that the Queen Eleni Mohammed Memorial Comprehensive Specialized Hospital of Watchmo University has recently received an ambulance from the Ministry of Health in recognition of the changes it has made in medical services.
For his part, the hospital director, Dr. Idnekachew Dedeham, recalled that the hospital had experienced a shortage of medicine supply; He stated that at that time, the availability of medicines was down to 50 percent.
He said that this situation has now improved and the availability of medicines has increased to 90 percent; he explained that efforts are being made to prevent future shortages of medicines.
