It is said that work is being done to provide houses smaller than condominiums to low-income groups

The Chief Executive Officer of the Housing Development Corporation, Ato Tsegaye, stated that various works have been done to solve the housing problem, especially to alleviate the housing shortage in cities.

He said that studies have been conducted to build houses smaller than condominiums in large numbers, in line with the idea raised by the House of People's Representatives that condominiums should not be the lowest housing standard.

The Housing Development Corporation stated that 20,754 houses were built by the government directly and indirectly in the past 6 months, indicating that the work being done in the housing sector is good.

Ato Tsegaye said that the houses smaller than condominiums are a way for low-income groups and government employees to easily rent them, and they are being designed and implemented through research.

The CEO said that 35 percent of the houses in the country are built by housing cooperatives; he added that this work is being done extensively in the regions.

He also stated that the corporation has one of the main problems in providing land and finance for the construction of houses.

Ato Tsegaye explained that the solution proposed in the upcoming lease proclamation is to make 30 percent of the land provided for housing development mandatory.
