The airline is carrying out the work to start the construction of the new "Airport City".

Ethiopian Airlines is carrying out the work to start the construction of the new "Airport City" in the current fiscal year, the Chief Executive Officer of the airline said.

It will be remembered that the airline announced three years ago that it will construct a modern and huge airport city in consideration of the rapidly growing number of customers.

This project, which is stated to be built in a place just outside of Bishoftu city in Oromia region; It is also suggested that it will have modern hotels, a duty-free shopping center and a cargo logistics center.

The Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Mesfen Tase, said during his meeting with ESA that the project has not been started due to various reasons.

He also stated that the airport will have the capacity to handle 100 million passengers a year when the construction is completed.

The CEO also said that the airline has completed a study with a company in France to start the construction.

He also mentioned that the airline is working closely with the Oromia region to start the construction of the project.

He further mentioned that a tender will be issued to the companies that will design the project and said that it is being done to complete all the preparatory work in the current year and start construction.

The project has a total budget of 5 billion dollars. The CEO said that it will be built in five years.

He pointed out that the project can be divided into two phases as needed.

The newly constructed "Airport City" will be a large industrial logistics center as it is close to Adama Industrial Park and Mojo Dry Port, ESA reported.
