Understanding Ethiopian Taxes

Matters included in the new Property Tax Proclamation:- 

 Taxable value: 25% of the market value of a property is the basis for property tax.

 From the market value of a property, the basis for property tax is 25 percent of the property value

 Exemption from property tax; It is a "residential building providing residential services to a low-income family." 

 They do not pay property tax because they have no source of income; Individuals who transfer their residence through sale or otherwise are required to pay only two years' worth of tax.

 In the approved decree, it was stipulated that the provisions of the 1986 decree "regarding the rent of urban land" will continue. 

 Provisions regarding rent of urban space not repealed; The explanation submitted to the Parliament explains that the reason is that "cities collect rent for urban land on existing properties that are not leased in accordance with this decree." When this decree was approved, it was explained in the parliament that "complete repeal of the decree will prevent cities from collecting urban land rent."
