The Regional Cooperative Extension Authority has announced that the process of distributing soil fertilizer to farmers in the Amhara region is underway.
The authority’s Director of Inputs and Marketing, Alemzewod Simeneh, stated that a process has been established to distribute the 8.8 million quintals of fertilizer that the region plans to import to farmers as soon as possible.
He announced that out of the 2.6 million quintals of fertilizer imported to the region so far, 1.7 quintals has been distributed to farmers through cooperatives.
The director added that efforts are being made to ensure food sovereignty by distributing the fertilizer to farmers in a timely manner.
The 2017/2018 harvest season in the region is expected to cover five and a half million hectares of land with seeds, with a production target of over 187 million quintals, according to the EZA.
According to information obtained from the Cooperative Extension Authority, 7.2 million quintals of soil fertilizer were distributed to farmers through cooperatives in the Amhara region during the 2016/2017 harvest season.
