All media professionals should learn from EBS's mistakes - Ato Aman Fisaatsion

The CEO of the organization stated that media professionals should thoroughly investigate and learn from EBS's mistakes before presenting any information to the public. 

Ato Aman, who made a statement regarding Birtukan Temesgen's creative program, said that Birtukan had been walking around for a whole month saying "Help me" and on the other hand, she had been creating a story that she had not been able to find for three whole months, and that they had reached the conclusion after investigating. 

He said that the station had previously helped people who had suffered serious problems, and that when she came to the station, she had written letters of support from various parties and fulfilled the requirements. 

Ato Aman stated that the journalistic professional defect was that the place where she was attacked was not properly identified and investigated. 

He pointed out that the failure to properly investigate and investigate school and other information was the fault of the station. 

The CEO, who mentioned that she requested that the video be broadcast for a week before the studio event was held, said that when asked why she wanted it to be broadcast, she said, “I have property to go back to my country to inherit, so I will be banned after the program is broadcast.”

Ato Aman, who mentioned that the station broadcasts these programs only with the permission of the hosts, mentioned that Birtukan called some time after the program was broadcast and said, “Take the video down because people are going to kill me.” 

He recalled that she said, “Take it down because my husband didn’t want it either,” and that her husband asked the same question, and at that time, he asked, “How did a girl who said she didn’t have a husband have a husband?” and the video was quickly taken down.

Ato Aman, who mentioned that the time of the attack and the age of her daughter were other professional shortcomings when filming the program, stated that she had a family when the investigation continued.

He said that in all this, the program went in an untenable and conflict-causing direction and put the institution under test.

He recalled that when the circumstances changed, the disappearance of the girl also made them very worried and that the Federal Police entered the investigation.

He mentioned that as a journalistic profession and as an institution, he made a mistake, and promised to apologize for this and to present the information to the public when it is verified.

The CEO, who stated that the reputation of his station was severely damaged by Birtukan's creative history, said that he would not stop the new chapter that 170 people have understood for three years because of this fake story, but rather that he would present properly verified stories. 

They stated that they will take administrative action against entities that have committed a major mistake that is burning this country in collaboration with another entity and will also cooperate in legal action.
