The Somali Issa community gathered under the shade of a mountain tree called Siti in the 16th century and developed this wonderful and unwritten traditional law that binds them together and allows them to live in harmony and order. It has been used for more than 570 years and is still being used. 

 

The Minister of Culture and Sports of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Mrs. Shewit Shanka, said that it is a great pride for our country to have been registered as a world heritage site at the 19th session of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and that the Ministry of Culture and Sports of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia will continue to work in various fields to promote Her Essen.

 

Also present at the event was a delegation led by the Deputy Prime Minister and the Head of the Coordination Center for Democracy Building and the Vice President of the Prosperity Party, Adam Farah; Dire Dawa Administration Mayor Ato Kedir Juhar, Somali Regional State Governor Ato Mustefe Mohammed, Somali Regional State Deputy Governor Ato Ibrahim Usman, Djibouti, Dire Dawa Administration Deputy Mayor Ato Harbi Buh, Dire Dawa Administration Council Speaker Honorable Ms. Fethia Aden, Dire Dawa Administration Prosperity Party Secretariat Head Ato Ibrahim Yusuf, as well as leaders at all levels of the administration were present.
