Deutsche Welle's annual international media conference is taking place in Bonn.

#Ethiopia "A free society needs a free media to report the truth and hold those in power accountable," German Foreign Minister Annale Berbock said in a video message at the conference, which will be held for the sixteenth time.

Melissa Fleming, the United Nations Under-Secretary-General for International Communications, said in her speech at the conference, "The free press must report freely on the divide."

The Deputy Secretary-General stressed that there should be "constructive" and "solution-producing journalism" that can support global growth.

The CEO of Deutsche Welle, Peter Limburg, emphasized that journalism should be independent and free from the use of social media.

He said that social media should be used to convey facts and constructive solutions beyond sensationalism and rumours.

 It is expected that the experts will consult with the invited guests on topics of discussion under the theme of "Building trust by overcoming division".

On the sidelines of the World Media Conference, representatives of three Ethiopian private media met and discussed with Deutsche Welle officials.
