It was announced that 4.5 billion saplings were planted in the Oromia region.

 

In this year's green footprint program, 4.5 billion saplings have been planted on 1.1 million hectares of land, the Oromia Regional Agriculture Bureau announced.

 

Elias Keder, the deputy head of the office, said that the results of the activities carried out since the preliminary preparation to achieve the program plan have been achieved.

 

He pointed out that the restoration of Haramaya Lake, which had dried up due to the water and natural resource protection works carried out in the past, has helped the community to be more motivated by green footprint work.

 

He also mentioned that efforts are being made to expand the experiences gained in Hararge zones to different areas of the region.

 

He mentioned that 5 billion saplings have been prepared for this year's Green Footprint Program and said that 11 percent of them are fruits and vegetables.

 

On July 10, 2015, the One Night Green Footprint Movement involved 17 million people and they mentioned that saplings of multifaceted importance were widely planted.

 

Ato Elias told Fana Broadcasting Corporation that the seedlings planted in the past years have been approved by an average of 88.5 percent.
