 So, which places are at risk of earthquakes in our country?

Institute of Geo Physics, Space Science and Astronomy at Addis Ababa University; Prof. Atalai Ayele, head of the seismology department and professor and researcher of earthquake science at the university:

"... Starting from Mekelle above Woldia, including Dese, it comes to Addis Ababa and extends to Arba Spring. The Rift Valley is in the middle. 

Then, when we cross to the other side, starting from Dredawa and including Goban Bale, Asela, Assalam is at the edge of the rift valley. 

A very large lowland area starts from Afar, Dalol and Ertale area and touches the rift valley that extends to the center of Semera, Adama, Bishoftu, Hawasa, and Arba source.

In the mentioned lowland areas / rift valley or the areas bordering them are vulnerable to earthquakes, including Addis Ababa.

People may not recognize Addis Ababa. So Addis Ababa is on the saddle of the Rift Valley. 

These cities are built in earthquake prone areas. 

For example, Renaissance Dam is not threatened by earthquakes nearby. Probably not more than 60 to 70 percent. 

That's not the point. What to add, are they holding Ethiopia's important economy, where are they located and how many cities are there? There are very few cities outside of the Rift Valley's influence. 

If we include those in the rift valley or border, 80 to 90 percent are almost all either in the rift valley or on the edge. Therefore, it cannot be said that they are outside the influence of earthquakes. "
