It has been reported that an additional 15 emergency response stations are set to be established in Addis Ababa.
The Chief Executive of Addis Ababa City, Engineer Wendimu Seta, stated that to sustainably reduce the recurring incidents of #fires and similar emergencies in the city, and to provide rapid responses during emergencies, there is a plan to establish 15 additional emergency response stations beyond the existing 11.
He explained that the current emergencies cannot be adequately addressed by the 11 stations alone, and based on their study, the city requires 26 emergency response stations.
The executive highlighted that areas particularly vulnerable to fire hazards are homes clustered along riverbanks. He noted that since the implementation of riverbank projects began, incidents in those areas have decreased.
He further added that riverbank developments have created favorable conditions for rapid responses to fire emergencies.
On his part, Commander Ahmed Mohammed, Commissioner of the Addis Ababa City Fire and Emergency Risk Management Commission, stated that the recurring fire incidents in the city are due to negligence within the community.
