The government will no longer allow construction projects to be started in a hurry and left at the foundation stone stage, Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Tiruneh said.
The Ethiopian Construction Industry Transformation Initiative (EITI) launch program was launched today at the Skylight Hotel in the presence of the Deputy Prime Minister.
Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Tiruneh, who attended the event as the guest of honor, said that the sector is facing many complex #problems.
He mentioned that poor construction quality, lack of resources and corruption are among the problems.
He also said that the government believes that the initiative announced today will make the sector more effective by eliminating these problems.
Minister of Urban Development and Infrastructure Chaltu Sani said that the initiative was prepared by involving key players in the sector.
He also said that it is designed to serve for the next twenty-five years.
He said that it is an initiative that aims to replace imported inputs with domestic ones, use different technologies, and introduce new practices in human resource training, recruitment, and evaluation.
It is said that the construction industry contributes twenty percent to the gross domestic product or #GDP in Ethiopia.
It is also said that it creates employment opportunities for ten percent of the productive workforce.
We have also heard that it is a sector where more than 35,000 companies are engaged.
